Cassano: "Losing Thiago Silva will be disastrous"

AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano has given his opinion on the possible sale of defender Thiago Silva to Paris Saint Germain.

Despite trying their best, the Rossoneri look destined to lose their prized asset after the French club have reportedly tabled a bid in the range of €40-50 million, with the player expected to make around €9 million per year. Talks between the two clubs are taking place in the French capital as we speak.

And Cassano admits it is vital for Milan to keep hold of their star players in order to succeed. Speaking to reporters in a press conference, the Italian forward said:

“If we lose Thiago Silva, then we lose 50% of the squad. He’s irreplaceable. Without Thiago Silva, it will be very difficult to compete for the Scudetto and the Champions League. How far can we make it without Silva? Without him, we can only qualify for the Champions League at best.”

The 29-year-old added that he would understand if other players get upset following the sale of Brazilian international. Cassano added that he is also unsure of his future. He added:

“I haven’t spoken to Ibra in a month, but if he gets angry about the sale of Thiago Silva, then I will agree with him. Sampdoria is in my heart, and I hope to return there one day. I don’t know if I will stay at Milan.”

Milan are said to be chasing troubled Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli and Cassano believes the 21-year-old will have little to do at the club in presence of Robinho, Ibrahimovich, himself and Pato.

“Balotelli hasn’t got anything to prove, but if he arrives at Milan, then what are we going to do? Play a 5-5-5 formation?”
