Champions League records broken in 2014-15 season
The Champions League 2014-15 season ended with Barcelona claiming the title for the fouth time in the last decade. While that was how the story ended, there were a bunch of milestones that were reached along the way. With the likes of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo breaking records virtually every time they played, many records were smashed this season.
It wasn’t just the duo, from the oldest goalscorer to the fastest red card, a number of different milestones were reached. Often it meant reaching new heights but sometimes it also meant that new lows were reached as well.
We’ve listed all that we could find and they amount up to 31 and here they are –

Cristiano Ronaldo finished the season as the highest goal scorer in the history of Champions League with 78 goals with Messi close behind with 77 goals.
Outgoing Barcelona midfield legend Xavi Hernandez broke Ryan Giggs's record of all all-time appearances in the Champions League, (151) this season when he came off the bench against PSG in group stage. By the end of the campaign, he had accumulated a total of 157 appearances for Barcelona in Champions League.
Lionel Messi also became the first player to be the top scorer in Champions League in 5 different seasons. He was tied on 4 with German legend Gerd Muller.
Veteran Italian striker, Francesco Totti of A.S. Roma became the oldest player (38 years, 59 days) to score in a Champions League, when he scored against CSKA Moscow on 25th November 2014.
Luiz Adriano of Shakhtar Donetsk equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 9 goals for most goals in the group stage of the Champions League in a single season.
Lionel Messi added one more hat-trick to his record of four hat-tricks, which is the highest by any player in the Champions League.
Luiz Adriano also equalled Messi's record of scoring 5 goals in a single match.
Real Madrid were able to open up a 14 points advantage in group stage making the biggest disparity in points between the group winner and the runner-up team ever in Champions League history. Real Madrid finished the group stage with 18 points, the second place team Basel were on 7 points. They broke the record of Spartak Moscow, set in 1995-96 season who had an eleven-point advantage over the group runner-up Legia Warsaw.
Barcelona have reached 11 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, the highest by any team in the Champions League. Real Madrid has ten and Bayern has nine semi-final appearances
Barcelona contested an eighth successive quarter-final, another UEFA Champions League record. They previously shared the mark of seven with Manchester United FC (1996/97–2002/03) and Real Madrid (1997/98–2003/04).
