The transfer window is over and one can safely say that David Luiz is going to be a Chelsea player at least for the next six months. Over the summer, Luiz was linked heavily with moves to Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

The Brazilian may not be the best defender in the world, but he has a multitude of qualities that makes him special. Once described as a ‘PlayStation footballer’ by Gary Neville, Luiz has grown into one Chelsea’s most important players.

In an interview given to Gazeta Esportiva, Luiz said:

“There was an official offer [from Barcelona], but I decided to stay at Chelsea. I am happy to play for a big club and be in the national team to represent my country.”

Barcelona came in with an official £35 million offer, which would have made Luiz one of the most expensive defenders in the world. Chelsea rejected it and categorically stated that he was not for sale at any price.

With John Terry in the fag-end of his career, Luiz is regarded as his long-term replacement at Stamford Bridge.

For his part, Luiz never came out and said that he wanted to leave Chelsea. He did, however, chose to remain silent on the issue.

Dani Alves would be greatly disappointed man after having publicly expressed his desire to see Luiz at Barcelona.
