Chelsea end the season on a high

After the Champions League exit there was a dark cloud that had settled all over Stamford Bridge. The mood was nothing sort of crisis intensified further by the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo who was considered as the man with the golden touch. After sacking of Di Matteo the Chelsea hierarchy added insult to injury to already angry fans by appointing Rafael Benitez as the interim manager. Then after began a saga where in fans made their displeasure very evident at the new manager with jeering and the constant taunts directed towards Benitez , who seemed to have picked ire of Chelsea fans by constantly chopping and changing the squad and almost gifting away the EPL title to Manchester United and the humiliating loss at FIFA Club World Cup making matters worse.

However as the saying goes ‘ There is always light at the end of the tunnel ‘ and after the turn of the year there was more consistency bought about in Chelsea game play which was a mix of flair and defensive stability. With progress made slowly n steadily in the Europa League along with consistent performance by likes of Mata , Hazard combined with David Luiz new central midfield role  and a certain Fernando Torres beginning to find his goal scoring touch yet again led to Chelsea securing Champions League football which was their top priority. Although the F.A Cup loss to Man city did halt their good run of form progression to the Europa League finals pegged hopes of winning the trophy. This was completed masterfully by them at the Amsterdam Arena with a late goal by Ivanovic ensuring shaded Benfica by 2-1 narrow scoreline . A season which seems to have been derailed in mid season has suddenly resulted and ended on a some what high note with silverware on display , and with a certain likely of Jose Mourinho returning back to the Bridge things can look upwards here on for Chelsea.
