Chelsea's starting XI against Everton – Who should play?
Who would you pick in your starting XI for the Everton vs Chelsea match this weekend?
The first game after the closing of the transfer window means that we know the personnel we will have available until January and it does giver Jose Mourinho plenty of positive selection headaches with so much talent to choose from.
In my mind, there is only one position that is going to be 100% guaranteed as we go through the Premier League and Champions League campaigns, and it belongs to Petr Cech.
Pretty much everyone else can expect to be rested, rotated or dropped at various points depending on the opponent and fixture schedule.
The Everton game could see the debut of Samuel Eto’o. However, it is unclear who Mourinho sees as his first choice in the central striking role.
I would opt for Demba Ba against Everton for his pace and power, bringing on Eto’o later in the game to bring him up to speed with the Premier League.
In the attacking midfield positions, we have five top quality options. I would go with Mata, Hazard and Oscar with Willian a candidate to come on and change the game later on.
In central midfield, I would go with Frank Lampard and Marco Van Ginkel, I want to see what MVG can do in a combative midfield.
Defensively, Ashley Cole will start at left back but I am unsure what rotation will be used in the other three positions by Mourinho. I have put Terry and Luiz together in the middle and Azpilicueta on the right as I think this is our most balanced side, although I am loathed to leave out Brana.
This is my XI but what is yours?
