Chelsea to face Corinthians in the final of Club World Cup in Yokohama today
UEFA Champions League champion and EPL side Chelsea is going to take Brazilian giant, the Copa Libertadores winners Corinthians in the Club World Cup final in Yokohama today.
Chelsea have beaten the Mexican side Monterrey by 3-1 margin in the first semifinal while their Brazilian counterpart Corinthians managed to beat the Egyptian giant Al-Ahly by 1-0 margin in the second semifinal.
In the history of Champions League, Chelsea is the only side to be knocked out from the group stage after winning the tournament in the very previous year. Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez is very much desperate to bag this crown, at least after their early exit from the Champions league. He is banking heavily on his experienced campaigners like David Luiz, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard.
Corinthians were the champions of the inaugural version of the World Club Cup 2000. We have seen last year another Brazilian giant Santos yielded against the Spanish giant Barcelona in the final of the same tournament so this time Corinthians will start cautiously against their opponent in the final.
Corinthians coach Tite, known for his ultra defensive formation, is expected to do the same in the final like previous matches. He will bank on the safe hands of his custodian Cassio and midfielder Paulino.
More than 25000 fans from Brazil have already started for Yokohama to shout for their side in the final, which will make the job more difficult for the English side Chelsea.
