Mourinho on season: "I think more defeats, more lost points for the top teams."
Plenty of Chelsea fans around the world have taken notice of the spending by our rivals for the Premier League title this summer. Jose Mourinho believes that to win it, is now harder than ever!
That's the thing you see, it's not just the big clubs that are spending to make their squads stronger, everyone is doing it. From the newly promoted sides, the established perennial regulation candidates, the mid table sides to the sides chasing a top six finish, everyone will be stronger this time around and Jose Mourinho believes this will have an effect on all of us this season.
"I think what other teams are doing will make a different Premier League. Crystal Palace buy [Yohan] Cabaye and Connor Wickham, as an example. I could give you much more examples. So, welcome this mentality, welcome this economic power, welcome this ambition," he said.
"If [to win] the Premier League was difficult, the Premier League will now be more difficult and I think fewer points to win the title. I think more defeats, more lost points for the top teams.
"It was always difficult to win matches in England. Always difficult. I think now more difficult. I was giving examples of Crystal Palace, I could give you examples of Stoke City, I could give you examples of Newcastle United, I could give you examples of Watford. The teams are going to be stronger and I think it will be more difficult for all of us.
"Everybody knows it’s difficult in this country but these teams are going to be difficult not just for the champions, they are going to be difficult for everybody.
"They will take points from us, they will take points from other clubs, the distance will shorten for sure, and I think good," he concluded.
What do you think of what he has said here? I have to agree that it's becoming more and more difficult to win the league. As we all know, any team is capable of winning any game no matter whom the opposition is and that's what makes our league exciting.
Chelsea's run of results last season was impressive with only three defeats. Remember early on there was talk of Chelsea emulating Arsenal's 'Invincibles'? I can honestly say that I cannot see that happening ever again. Just think of the teams in the Premier League back then, their strength in depth then compared to the sides in our league now and you will understand!
Jose referred to Crystal Palace but you only have to look around the league to see how managers have strengthened their options this year compared to last. Sterling, Milner, Benteke, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and more have all made moves this summer and it will be interesting to see just how these players can settle into life with their new teams.
This is heating up to become a really exciting season and teams WILL beat each other. Can Chelsea retain their title this season and stay one step ahead of our challengers?
What do you think of the strength of the Premier League now and do you agree with Jose Mourinho that everyone will drop points?
