Chelsea keen to find new club for 21-year-old star after late transfer collapse - Reports
Chelsea are working to find a new club for striker David Datro Fofana after his proposed transfer to Greek outfit AEK Athens fell through. The Blues are left with a number of players training away from the main group after failing to secure transfers before the transfer window shut.
Ivorian striker David Datro Fofana was one of those to learn that he would get no look-in from the start of pre-season. The 21-year-old was left out of the squad that headed out to the USA for their now-customary pre-season tour.
Fofana was approached by a number of clubs since then but failed to secure a move to one in Europe's top five leagues before the transfer window closed. The former Molde man was set to join Greek side AEK Athens on Greek transfer deadline day on loan, but the deal fell through.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues are still looking for a solution to the situation of the young striker who is trying to find him a club. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 18, providing a realistic option for the young striker. A number of others remain in a similar situation at the club, most notably vice-captain Ben Chilwell.
The Blues spent north of £250 million this summer, signing more than ten new players in what was a busy transfer window for them. This, in addition to the arrival of new coach Enzo Maresca, meant some players were considered surplus to requirements.
Fofana joined the Blues in January 2023 and made three appearances for the side before heading out on loan at the start of the 2023-24 season. He featured for Union Berlin in the first half of the season and Burnley in the second half, scoring four goals in 15 Premier League appearances.
Chelsea goalkeeper picks up injury on international duty
Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen was one of the casualties of the first international break of the season as he picked up an injury. The 22-year-old had to come off injured while turning out for the Denmark U-21s in their win over their Czech counterparts.
Jorgensen moved to Chelsea from Villarreal this summer, signing a long-term deal with the Premier League side. He has appeared twice for the side, both in the UEFA Europa Conference League, but is awaiting his Premier League debut.
With Jorgensen injured, Chelsea may have to turn to Marcus Bettinelli to take his place on the bench when they face Bournemouth on Saturday. Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is expected to continue between the sticks in the game, seeing as he has started every league game.
