Rumour: Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United lead chase for Monaco’s Falcao
Monaco could be about to make a £15 million loss on flagship signing Radamel Falcao, with the Express reporting that they are willing to accept £35 million for a player that they spent £50 million on less than a year ago.
The news is said to have alerted both Manchester City and Manchester United, while reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is monitoring the situation as a plan b option should Chelsea’s move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa collapse.
Falcao moved to Monaco last summer from Atletico Madrid for around £50 million, but the move has not worked out as hoped during the first year. Reports suggest that Falcao has failed to embrace the “project” that Monaco are undertaking, while he is also said to be unhappy in France.
On the pitch, his appearances have been limited by a knee injury which has seen him missing since January.
He has made just 17 league appearances this season, scoring nine goals, and is now facing a race against time to be fit to play a part in Columbia’s World Cup campaign.
Having paid such a hefty fee, Monaco would be unlikely to find a club that would match what they paid for Falcao and if they were to let him go would have to take a loss.
The Express believe that both Manchester sides and Chelsea are interested, while Falcao has also been linked with Real Madrid.
