Rumour: Chelsea eye three unstoppable world class strikers in the summer

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has given up in his attempts to prise Wayne Rooney away from Manchester United and turned his attention to three of Europe’s most sought after front men instead, according to The Express.

The Portuguese desperately tried to convince United’s talisman to join him at Stamford Bridge, making two bids in the summer. A third and final offer was made in January but with United reluctant to sell but Rooney appears to have opted to stay under new boss David Moyes.

Having finally admitted defeat in his pursuit of the England forward, Mourinho has earmarked three other targets of the highest calibre that he wants to spearhead the West Londoners attack.

Bayern Munich’s unsettled Mario Mandzukic, Atletico Madrid’s in form Diego Costa and Paris Saint-Germain target man Edinson Cavani are all reportedly on the Blues’ radar.

The trio would be likely to cost in excess of £30 million each but Roman Abramovich is likely to provide Mourinho with significant funds to spend in the summer, especially if he manages to claim the Premier League crown in his first season back in England.

With Fernando Torres misfiring and Samuel Eto’o a shadow of the player he once was, Chelsea are keen to fill the forward void that has not been addressed since Didier Drogba departed and one of Europe’s finest certainly fits the bill.

Wayne Rooney has created 42 chances this season, 14 more than the second highest United player, Patrice Evra.
