Chelsea reject £35m bid for Jose Mourinho from AS Monaco

Jose Mourinho’s job at Chelsea is in peril after a shocking season so far

According to astonishing reports in the Daily Mail, Chelsea have rejected a £35million bid for manager Jose Mourinho from AS Monaco. The ex-Real Madrid manager’s job at Stamford Bridge is in jeopardy after a disastrous campaign thus far into the season. The London-based club has already lost six matches in the league, whereas last term they only lost three matches overall en route to the League title.

Last week a Spanish news website Sport reported that Monaco were interested in signing Jose Mourinho. Alessandro Proto, an Italian billionaire who is also a minority shareholder in Monaco told the news website that the club has had talks with Mourinho after Chelsea’s loss to West Ham United, but nothing has been finalised.

Proto said, “On Saturday night they had the first contact with Jose Mourinho to coach at Monaco. We are still in a very early stage, but we are convinced that Mourinho could train in Monaco short term".

As reported by Daily Mail, Potro met Blues owner Roman Abramovich in London to talk about Mourinho's availability to sign for the Ligue 1 club. However, the Russian rejected the reported £35m offer from Monaco.

Mourinho’s job was under a lot of speculation after Chelsea slumped to their sixth defeat in the league against Liverpool in Stamford Bridge last weekend. The Blues failed to build upon from the lead provided by Ramires, as Phillippe Coutinho’s brace and a goal from Christian Benteke sank the Chelsea ship.

The Portuguese later insisted that he will remain at the club. When asked on how long he thought he would stay at the club, he said, “Four years. In this case, three years and seven months.”

Mourinho renewed his contract with Chelsea earlier this year, which means he could stay at the club till 2019.

The fans at Stamford Bridge also showed their support towards Mourinho and kept chanting his name during the loss against Liverpool.

When quizzed about how he feels about the fans support, the ex-Porto manager said, “I take comfort from that but what feeds me is not just the support of the fans. What feeds me is the recognition of our work, and the recognition is by getting results, I have some players who are really sad in the dressing room. I am full of respect for them. We see it, match after match, that as professionals they are not getting the respect that they deserve. We are not going to have a great Saturday dinner.”

Though, in a bizarre post-match interview, Mourinho kept repeating the phrase ‘I have nothing to say’ to all of the interviewer's question. He was also engaged in a deep discussion with his coaching staff on the Stamford Bridge pitch, just after the match.
