Chelsea star John Terry hopes he is not picked by Antonio Conte in the Blues starting XI

John Terry is content with a place on the bench

John Terry has not started a game for Chelsea since the 2-2 draw against Swansea in September and the Chelsea legend is pretty content to sit on the bench if it means that the Blues continue their stunning form.

John Terry suffered a gluteal muscle injury which ruled him out of the matchday squad against Tottenham. Initially in the season, after Terry’s injury in September, Conte opted to switch to the three in the back system and have won seven games on the spin conceding only one goal.

Facing a second spell on the sidelines, Terry admitted that he did not mind watching from afar. Speaking to reporters, Terry said:

"In the best possible way, this season, and it's going to sound crazy, but if I don't get back in the team it means that Chelsea are winning, and at the minute we are not conceding goals, it possibly means we're going to win the league,

"In the nicest way, I hope I don't get back into the team, because we carry on winning football matches."

Antonio Conte has completely transformed the team after crippling losses against Liverpool and Arsenal and the Blues look like genuine title contenders. Players like Pedro and Moses look completely revitalised while David Luiz has thrived at the centre of a three-man defence.

The biggest surprise of this Chelsea squad has undoubtedly been Victor Moses with Antonio Conte finding it incredible that his qualities were underestimated. Speaking about Moses, Conte said:

“I could see his[Moses’] potential from the first days of the summer training camp, Moses has important qualities: technique, physical strength, the ability to cover 70m of the pitch. I find it incredible that someone like him has been underestimated,”

Conte also spoke about the importance of a winning mentality at the club.

“A winning mentality is in the cultural heritage of a club, you need people to keep it at high levels.

“You can’t be successful just based on history or trophies won, you need the daily contribution of the men who work at the club. A winning mentality means daily work, the way you deal with your opponents and the effort put into the smallest details.”

Conte has certainly been putting plenty of effort in small details and if Chelsea’s good form continues, they might well end up being crowned Premier League champions in May.
