Reports: Chelsea to make stunning €72 million bid for superstar striker in January
What's the story?
Antonio Conte is not a happy man.
You wouldn't be too if you were coaching the team that conceded Crystal Palace's first (and second, actually) goal of the season - having failed to even threaten the opponents' goal in their previous seven matches.... and make their defence, responsible for conceding 17 goals in those seven matches, look like Juventus'... and he wants to address this pronto.
As per the good folk over at the Daily Telegraph, Conte has realized that if Morata is incapacitated, he really can't depend on Michy Batshuayi to do what he must. The Italian is reportedly ready to offload the Belgian youngster in January but that would leave Morata as the sole recognised striker in the squad - and to correct it, reports suggest, he has asked his executives to shell up the £65 million (or €72 million) that Leicester City would demand for their superstar striker, Jamie Vardy.
In case you didn't know
Vardy was linked heavily with Chelsea over the summer, before the Morata signing, and the Blues did look suspiciously light up front when the season started so it is but natural that they would reignite their interest in the Englishman - who, being a born fighter, is exactly the kind of player that Conte and the Stamford Bridge faithful love to have on their side.
Christian Benteke and Richmond Boakye are also alternatives, but Conte would obviously go for the more seasoned, and more goal-heavy, option.
The heart of the matter
Leicester have gained just 6 points from 8 games, and are languishing in 18th, and it has emerged that Craig Shakespeare has been sacked by the Foxes with no end in sight to their lackluster style of play.
This would make a move out seem more amenable for Vardy than it did last season, and Leicester - aware of Chelsea's dire need for goals - will be happy to cash in on the situation and get the most of the situation.

He would be perfect for Chelsea, wouldn't he?
Author's Take
Chelsea need a striker. Jamie Vardy needs a higher platform to perform on (read, UEFA Champions League) to make sure of a slot for Russia 2018 (besides, if he plays well for a top side - all due respect to Leicester - he is more like to come into the manager's prominence... as convoluted as that logic may be)
If ever there was a perfect transfer - this would be it.
