Chelsea Transfer Rumour: Cesc Fabregas in talks with AC Milan over a possible move in January
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has reportedly opened talks with Serie A outfit AC Milan over a possible transfer in the upcoming January window. The Spaniard has struggled to make the starting eleven under Italian Antonio Conte, who has preferred Kante and Matic in central midfield over the playmaker.
Fabregas has made just four Premier League appearances to add to a League Cup appearance against Leicester City, where he scored a brace in a 4-2 victory for Chelsea, seeing them progress to the next round in the English League Cup, where they come up against London neighbours West Ham United.

AC Milan, reportedly in the process of being taken over by Chinese investors, are interested in swooping in for the out of favour former Barcelona playmaker as a replacement for injured midfielder Riccardo Montilivo. AC Milan CEO Marco Faassone and director of football Massimiliano Mirabelli have reportedly flown to London to initiate talks over a potential transfer.
The London club were in the market for Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli in the summer transfer window, with the move not going through because Chelsea didn’t meet Milan’s asking price of £40 million for the Italian defender.
Romagnoli’s transfer to Chelsea in January could hinge on Fabregas moving in the other direction, in what could end up being a swap deal or Fabregas plus a sum of money for Romagnoli.
In the wake of media reports of Fabregas’s possible exit in January, Milan head coach Vincenzo Montella was quick to react to rumours stating the Spaniard wouldn't be a right fit at the San Siro as a replacement for the injured Montilivo, going on to add that Fabregas is not suited to play in a midfield two.

Under contract with Chelsea till 2019, the Spaniard was signed from Barcelona for a fee in excess of £30 million two seasons ago. Fabregas enjoyed success with Chelsea under Jose Mourinho in his first season with the club, guiding them to their fourth Premier League trophy.
Due to inconsistent performances for Chelsea, Fabregas was left out of Spain’s squad by new manager Julen Lopetegui for Spain’s recent World Cup qualifying games against Italy and Albania. The 29-year-old midfielder is considering leaving the club to find more regular playing time to win back a call-up and represent his nation in their bid to make it to Russia 2018.
