Clattenburg cleared for Lallana comment

Clattenburg and Lallana

Premier League have dismissed Mark Clattenburg’s comment of “You’re different now you’ve played for England, you never used to be like this” aimed at Adam Lallana after the latterĀ  questioned Clattenburg’s decision of not awarding a penalty.

This however has disappointed Southampton Football Club whose spokesman Jordan Sibley said: “An official insulting any player, no matter his intentions, is clearly not acceptable behaviour.”

“For this reason, we do not accept the verdict in relation to this case, and do not consider the matter to be over.”

“Under the circumstances, we do not feel it appropriate for Mr Clattenburg to officiate in any of our matches until this matter is properly resolved.”

Everton manager Roberto Martinez however has backed Mark Clattenburg : “I thought Mark Clattenburg had a very good game in terms of controlling the players and showing a great manner, and I’m quite surprised.”

This is not the first time Clattenburg has been involved in controversies as he was accused of racially abusing John Obi Mikel in last season’s match at Stamford Bridge, Clattenburg was later cleared in that case.
