Comparing the transfer fees of EPL and La Liga clubs
The top two leagues in all of Europe, the English Premier League and the Spanish La Liga has always been strongly contested. Be it on or off the pitch. An interesting research done by Football Observatory for the Big-5 Weekly Post revealed the amount of money the clubs have had to spend in order to accumulate the current squad that they have.
Not surprisingly, Real Madrid were the front runners when it came to spending the highest amount of money given both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale almost cost them €200 million. Almost 100 million more than what second-placed Manchester City had spent.
Apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona, the expenditures of the other Spanish clubs have been quite low in comparison to that of the English clubs. You could notice that Atletico Madrid’s squad was assembled for €1m less than Aston Villa’s and Atletico Madrid are right now on top of the Spanish domestic league. Again, the factor that most of the English players have inflated transfer value and cost more usually. For instance, someone like James Milner cost more or around the same as Isco even after taking both of their potential and age into factor.
Note: The transfer fees are a subject to change as inflation has not been taken into account and there was no detail mentioned on how they have accounted for currency exchanges.
