Copa America sends twitter invitation to Barack Obama and his daughters to meet Lionel Messi

The President recently spoke at an event in Argentina

The President of the United States, Barack Obama recently revealed how his daughters wanted to meet the world’s best player Lionel Messi. But as influential as he is he was unable to arrange a meeting with the Argentine superstar while he was in Buenos Aires.

But the organizers of the Copa America have lent out a helping hand by tweeting to the POTUS from their official twitter account. Obama received an invitation from the organizers to attend the 100th Copa America tournament which is to be held in the US later this year.

They offered the President and his daughters tickets for Argentina’s game against Panama on June 10th which will take place at Soldier Field in Chicago. Here is the tweet from their account:

So looks like there is a good chance Obama and his daughters might just go to the game and have another chance to meet the football maestro.

Barack Obama met the Pope

Sasha and Malia Obama accompanied their father on a trip to the country recently where they met a famous Argentine –  Pope Francis. But meeting Lionel Messi proved a bit too difficult.

“I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of [Buenos Aires]," Obama said. "They've already met one famous Argentinean – His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet Messi, but I could not arrange that”

But now they have been given another opportunity after Copa America’s generous offer.

Argentina’s World Cup qualification back on track

Argentina exacted revenge on rivals Chile for their defeat in the Copa America finals last year after defeating them 2-1 in their World Cup qualifiers. Messi and his teammates have now earned back to back wins in the competition after a torrid start to their campaign.

An early goal from Felipe Guitierrez gave the home side the lead but Angel Di Maria leveled the scores after some fine work from Sergio Aguero and Ever Banega. Argentina completed their comeback after Messi found Gabriel Mercado in the box, his scissors’ kick landing in the back of the net.

Argentina had failed to win any of their opening three games. They lost to current leaders Ecuador at home followed by two draws against Paraguay and Brazil. But consecutive wins against Columbia and Chile have steered their campaign back on track.
