Corinthians are the most valuable club according to Mexican Forbes
Mexico City, Dec 4 (IANS) Teams from Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are among the 30 most valuable clubs in the American continent, according to the Mexican edition of Forbes magazine.
The list includes the ranking of the most valuable football teams in the continent and for the second consecutive year, Brazil is the leader, reports Xinhua.
Three benchmarks, including the cost of the stadium (if it belongs to the club), the price of the players and the trademark's value, were considered in the ranking.
Brazil's Corinthians, the leader, is the only club whose worth is above $500 million, followed by Gremio ($354 million) and Palmeiras ($343 million).
The most valuable team in the world is Spain's Real Madrid, which according to Forbes is $3.44 billion.
The Brazilian teams include Corinthians, Gremio, Palmeiras, Internacional Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Atletico Paranaense, Santos, Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Atletico Mineiro and Fluminense.
The Mexican teams included in the list are Chivas, America, Santos Laguna, Cruz Azul, Tigres, Tijuana Xolos and Monterrey.
Argentina is represented by Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo and Independiente.
Teams from the United States are part of the ranking, including New York Red Bulls, Sporting Kansas City, Los Angeles Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Columbus Crew. Also, one team from Canada: Montreal Impact.
Other teams from South American countries are Deportivo Cali (Colombia) and Emelec (Ecuador).
