Cristiano Ronaldo news: Former Real Madrid president reveals why the Portuguese forward left the club
What's the news?
Former Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon reveals that Florentino Perez and Neymar are the reasons why Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.
In case you didn't know...
After nine successful years at the Bernabeu, Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus last summer. The Portuguese played 438 games in all competitions during his time with the Spanish giants, scoring 450 goals.
He helped Madrid win a number of trophies, including four Champions League trophies and two LaLiga titles. The 34-year old is currently the Los Blancos' leading goalscorer(450 goals) in all competitions and he also holds the record of scoring most number of hattricks(34) for the club in the league.
His departure left a huge void to fill in the squad and Madrid are struggling without him at the moment. They are currently third in the league table, nine points behind the leaders Barcelona.
The heart of the matter
Speaking with Radio Villa Trinidad(via Goal), Ramon Calderon blamed Florentino Parez and Neymar for Ronaldo's departure.
He said:
“Cristiano asked for a raise after winning the Champions League and Florentino denied it. Cristiano also got angry because he heard that Madrid would be willing to pay a lot of money for Neymar.
“Florentino told him that if he brought in a cheque for 100 million euros he would let him go and that's how it was.”
He further added:
“Florentino did not accept that Cristiano was a signing of mine.
“I don’t deny that he has been a great president for Madrid, but he does not accept well the inheritances that he receives. The same thing happened to him with [Iker] Casillas, Raul, [Arjen] Robben and [Wesley] Sneijder.”
What's next?
Real Madrid will play Levante next in the league, whereas, Ronaldo's Juventus are scheduled to play against Bologna on February 24.
