Cristiano Ronaldo news: Juventus star closes in on Messi, Beppe Signori goal-scoring record
What's the story?
With his late goal against Lazio on Sunday, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is now closer to breaking not one, but two incredible records held by Italian legend Beppe Signori and Barcelona ace Lionel Messi.
In case you didn't know...
Juventus travelled to the Stadio Olimpico to face Lazio in a game that saw the table-toppers maintain their lead at the top of the Serie A.
Ronaldo once again emerged as the hero of the Bianconeri after an Emre Can own goal put their opponents ahead early in the second half.
Last week, Ronaldo made the headlines for failing to convert a spot-kick but the forward quickly responded to it by converting one against Lazio. Fourteen minutes after a Joao Cancelo equaliser, the 33-year-old forward finished the penalty to grab all three points for his side.
The heart of the matter
Adding to his growing tally of records at the Serie A outfit, his late goal has made him the first player to score eight consecutive away goals in the modern Serie A.
According to Calciomercato, the former Los Blancos star is now closing in on Beppe Signori, who scored in ten successive away games between 1992 and 1993.
The 33-year-old forward is also closing in on Barcelona captain Messi, who holds the European record for the most away consecutive goals (13).
The goal marks Ronaldo's 17th goal in 28 appearances in all competitions for his new side. He has also registered eight assists so far this season.
What's next?
Max Allegri's side remain at the top of the Serie A table with a comfortable 59 points while closest rivals Napoli are trailing behind in second place with 48 points.
The table-toppers will shift their focus to the Coppa Italia when they face Atalanta later tonight.
