What’s the story?
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in history to win 10 UEFA trophies for both club and country, after wining the UEFA Nations League title last night.
In case you didn’t know…
Cristiano Ronaldo has added another trophy to his already illustrious trophy cabinet by winning the inaugural UEFA Nations League after Portugal’s narrow 1-0 win over Netherlands in the final on Sunday.
The 34-year-old Portuguese has now won two major international trophies with his national side after breaking his duck back in 2016 UEFA Euro. Ronaldo, who already is the leading scorer for his country with 88 international goals, also ended up as the tournament’s leading goal scorer with 3 goals, courtesy of a stunning hat-trick in the semis against the Swiss.
The Portuguese international has now won two out of the last three finals for Portugal. The only defeat came against an underdog Greece side back in 2004, when Ronaldo and co. were sell shocked on their home soil.
Since then, Ronaldo has only lost a single UEFA competition final back in 2009, when Lionel Messi and Barcelona got the better of Manchester United in the final of the Champions League.
The heart of the matter
With his latest edition of UEFA Nations League title to his trophy cabinet, Ronaldo has now become the first player in history to win a sum of 10 UEFA trophies.
Previously, Ronaldo has won 5-Champions League gold medals with Manchester United and Real Madrid, while four of them came in the famous white shirt of Madrid during his 9-year tenure at the Spanish capital.
However, Ronaldo won his first ever UEFA trophy, while playing for the Red Devils under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2007-08 season, when Manchester United edged out Chelsea in an all-English Champions League final.
Apart from these 7 UEFA crowns, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has also clinched three UEFA Super Cups for the Los Blancos in 2014-15, 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons.
What’s Next?
Ronaldo will be back in action for Juventus on 21st of July in their first pre-season friendly against Tottenham.
