Euro 2016: Cristiano Ronaldo shows a lovely gesture to his fan on field
A young fan came onto the pitch before the semi-final clash between Portugal and Wales, and Cristiano Ronaldo showed a lovely gesture by allowing the fan to click a quick selfie with him. The young fan even managed to pose in the official Portuguese team shot.
Cristiano Ronaldo then fired his team into the Euro 2016 final by scoring a bullet header and then assisting another as Portugal picked up a 2-0 win against British surprise-semifinalists Wales. Ronaldo’s determination to win a major international trophy with Portugal showed on the pitch as he put up a captain’s performance and guided Portugal to their first Euro Final since 2004.
Ronaldo’s performance in this year’s Euro has often been questioned. Apart from the two goals he struck against Hungary in the final group game, Ronaldo has failed to live up to expectations. However, he did not disappoint this time around as Portugal finally overcame their semi-final blushes. He was at the heart of both Portugal goals, showing his immense aerial skill on the first goal before crossing one to Nani who sealed their final berth.
The fan, who would surely think himself to be the lucky charm in Portugal’s efforts to win the match, was met with a smiling face when he approached the Portuguese talisman before the game. The three-time Champions League winner is used to this sort of fanfare on a daily basis with people often wanting to hug him or click a selfie with him, and the Real Madrid man seemed to enjoy the young fan’s determination.
Ronaldo is known for making time for his dedicated football fans off the field. Many a time, he has interacted with his fans who had intruded on the pitch where Ronaldo didn’t seem to mind their presence. In the warm up in a match against Atletico Madrid in 2015, Ronaldo hit a wayward free kick to the stands which hit a young fan, Ronaldo was prompt in showing his concern as he made a dash towards the teary eyed supporter and offered him his training shirt.
This was not the first incident showing Ronaldo’s heartwarming gesture towards a fan in Euro 2016. In the 0-0 draw against Austria in the group stages where he missed a penalty, Ronaldo showed his class by clicking a selfie with a pitch invader after the match by putting his personal disappointment behind.
Portugal play the final of Euro 2016 against the winner of the Germany and France game and Ronaldo will be hoping to put in his all as he strives for his first major international crown with Portugal.
