Daily transfer news and rumours roundup - 3rd May 2017
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda's latest transfer news and rumours roundup. Today's stories feature the latest on the future of Cesc Fabregas and much more. On that note, let's take a look at the major happenings across Europe that made headlines on May 3, 2017:
Premier League biggies to fight it out for Fabregas
After signing for a sum of £27 million from FC Barcelona in 2014, Cesc Fabregas is on the verge of winning his second Premier League title with Chelsea. But since the arrival of manager Antonio Conte, he has been offered very few chances with the Italian manager preferring the duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante.
With reports emerging about Chelsea’s rumoured move for AS Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayako, the Blues are set to offload Fabregas to the highest possible bidder. The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to take the 30-year-old on board for the next season with both sides aiming to sign a midfielder in the summer.
Chelsea are expected to sell Fabregas for a sum around £30 million.
Chelsea to go all out for the in demand Premier League defender
Virgil Van Dijk's future has been the talk of the town in recent weeks with the centre-back reportedly being a summer target for Liverpool and Manchester City. The Telegraph has now reported that Chelsea are ready to spend £50 million to bolster their already strong back line.
With John Terry leaving the club and Kurt Zouma set to go on loan for a regular game time, Chelsea need a centre back for their favoured 3-4-3 formation as Conte has earmarked Van Dijk as the perfect candidate to replace John Terry at the club.
Tottenham Hotspur identify a backup striker for Harry Kane
Joshua King has been in sensational form for Bournemouth since the turn of the year and has racked in 12 league goals since January. His brilliant run has not gone unnoticed with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino keen to add him to his ranks for the next season.
The North London side sees the Norwegian as a strong backup option for Harry Kane. King has a contract with the Cherries till 2020, and a deal is expected to cost Spurs around £15 million, according to the Mirror.
Vincent Janssen will make way for a striker in the Spurs squad as the Dutchman has failed to create a positive impact at the club.
AS Monaco reject Manchester United bid for teenage sensation
Kylian Mbappe, the 18-year-old Monaco attacker, has taken the world by storm after his goalscoring exploits have led Monaco to a Champions League semi-final berth. Reputed journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Manchester United made a bid of around €85 million for Mbappe last week which was rejected by the Ligue 1 leaders.
Monaco have placed a value of €130 million on their prized asset and will wait to see which club bids the highest for their forward with the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea also interested in taking him on board.
