Daniel Sturridge: "The Undertaker is my favourite wrestler"

Sturridge posted this image of himself dressed in similar style to The Undertaker on Instagram

While most footballers have a football player as their childhood hero, Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge has gone one step further. Sturridge has revealed that he was a huge fan of The Undertaker and still is.

The Liverpool forward affirmed that he always dreamed of becoming a footballer while growing up, despite his love of wrestling as a youngster.

In an interview with sbtv.co.uk, Sturridge said: ‘Football is what I’ve always wanted to do, but I did love wrestling when I was younger. Obviously it wasn’t something I really could’ve done (as a career).

‘The Undertaker was my favourite one (wrestler) because he was the scariest at the time with his music, the darkness and the way he’d come out of the ring.

‘I’ve got a recent picture of me wearing an outfit and someone has put me next to The Undertaker. I’ve also got a picture of myself wearing an Undertaker t-shirt from when I was a kid.’

He added; ‘I would have the hair, the hat, the long jacket and probably the wrestling pumps. I would even wear the pants over the top of the trousers too.’

And while The Undertaker will be facing Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX and trying to keep his 21-0 streak alive, Daniel Sturridge will be aiming to help Liverpool win their first Premier League title.

Would he still be dressing up as The Deadman if Liverpool secure an unlikely Premier League title this season?

“You don’t do that these days,” said Sturridge. “You don’t do that.”

He did give hope though in admitting he would still dress up as The Undertaker for any upcoming fancy dress party.
