Danny Rose pens new five year deal at Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Rose

Tottenham left-back Danny Rose has signed a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane, the club announced on their official website.

The news comes as a surprise to many after the young full-back was deemed to be demoted to the back-up position following the acquisition of Ben Davies by Mauricio Pochettino in recent days.

The Argentine seems to be backing up the abilities of the ex-Leeds player to provide stiff competition to Davies for the left-back position. At such young stages of their careers, competition should only be a good thing if they push each other to play better and smarter

Rose, who has been a star of sorts for the England U-21 team in recent years was supposed to be the future of the Spurs at the left-back position.

However, after enjoying a fairly successful spell on loan to Sunderland during the 2012/13 season, the speedy youngster failed to kick on last year when given an extended run in the side.

The club responded in kind this summer, bringing in Ben Davies from Swansea in a part-exchange deal that saw Michel Vorm also join Spurs. Meanwhile Gilfy Siggurdsson went in the opposite direction.

Ever since joining Tottenham from Leeds in July 2007, the 24-year old has made only 59 appearances for the North London club.
