David Beckham to own a MLS team in Miami
Former England Footballer David Beckham has confirmed that he will start a Major League Soccer team in the City of Miami.
Beckham, who played for MLS side LA Galaxy, said, “I want to create a team that is personal to me, I know the city is ready for soccer & I know we will be successful.”
According to certain reports, Beckham and his investors are in negotiations to build a 25,000-seater stadium on Miami’s waterfront where the team will play their games.
Beckham revealed that there will be no public funding, “We don’t want public funding. We will fund the stadium ourselves, we want investors that are passionate for the game.”
“The one thing I want to achieve more than anything is I want to set up a great academy, an academy that brings kids from all over Miami. It’s about nurturing talent.”
He admitted that this will be a rollercoaster ride, and he is prepared for it, “We are going to have a lot of interesting people that want to invest in this club. There will be more fun than difficult times. This country wants to be the best in everything.”
“We want people to be proud of their MLS teams and their National team.”
Beckham also said that this is long term project and will take time and there will be success eventually, “There was a team here 10 years ago, which unfortunately folded. I know this city is ready for soccer this time around, I know this is going to be successful.
“I have always said throughout my career, whether there are challenges or not, that to be successful you have to work hard. I have worked hard through my whole career and I am going to work hard for this city and for this League, to make this team very successful.
“I am looking forward to spending a lot more time here,” he added.
