David Beckham to buy an MLS club?

David Beckham‘s representatives have reportedly held talks with the Major League Soccer over the purchase of a new club. The former England captain announced his retirement this week and it was revealed that Beckham’s contract at the Los Angeles Galaxy included an option to purchase an “expansion franchise”.

In 2009, Beckham had said that he has an option to own a franchise, which he would use immediately when he stops playing.

MLS executive vice-president of communications Dan Courtemanche said: “There have been preliminary discussions with his advisors.

“At some point in time he will exercise that option and we can go through the process of making sure it is the perfect fit for David and Major League Soccer, but we are not there yet.”

BBC have reported saying that Beckham has already been approached by two clubs over an ownership role.

MLS is consisted of 19 teams, and there are talks going about adding a 20th team, with Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour reported to be the likely buyer.
