David Luiz Interview: "Kaka is my role model"
On Monday, March 25th, Brazil take on Russia at Stamford Bridge, and it’s a chance for Chelsea boys David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar to welcome their teammates to the Bridge to take on Fabio Capello’s side.
Ahead of the game, I was asked by Chelsea Football Club along with ChelseaBrasil.com to pose some questions to David Luiz, and you will find his answers below:
How do you feel about Brazil playing at Stamford Bridge?
It’s an amazing feeling. I could play for my country at home. Not too many players have this opportunity. I just have to try and be in the squad now. I hope I am on the list, as it would be a great opportunity to play at Stamford Bridge.
Who is your favourite Brazilian player of all time?
I would say my father – my dad! But one guy who is an example for me, with personality and everything, and of course as a player, born on the same day as me, 22nd April – is Kaka. He is an example for me – a great player and person.
What’s been the funniest moment you’ve had since joining Chelsea?
I try to enjoy all the moments, to be happy every day, because I think it is a privilege to play for a big club.
Was moving from Portugal to England one of the best decisions of your career?
It was a big decision, because I played for a big club in Portugal. I had a great relationship with everyone in Portugal, so it was difficult, but it was important for me to play in another league and a big opportunity to play at a big club like Chelsea. I am very happy, and looking forward to helping Chelsea in the future.
Who has been the most difficult player you have played against for Chelsea?
It’s difficult to choose just one player. When you play at a high level, all the teams you play have good players. I just need to be fit for all the games, and to learn about the opposition from videos beforehand.
How would you describe Brazil’s style of football?
We love to have the ball, keep possession, and look to score all the time. When I used to watch Brazil when I was young, they were scoring lots of goals so we try to keep this style, as we want people to be happy when they see that style. Brazilian style is one of happy football!
When selected previously, have you felt the pressure of expectation playing for Brazil, because of the successes in the past?
I don’t really feel pressure. I love great moments in my life. So now I have an opportunity to play for my country I want to keep working hard every day to continue this level – everyone knows what’s expected of Brazil.
Who’s the most talented player (apart from yourself) in the Brazilian national team?
I can’t choose just one person, as I see many players with a lot of talent in Brazil. I have played with many very talented players. We have two playing at the moment for Chelsea. There are so many players. I think the most important thing for the national team is that we’re like a family. When all the players have an opportunity to be together, it is always special. All the players are friends, and it’s good fun. We work hard, but we just love to play, as everyone loves football.
