David Luiz left Chelsea due to his relationship with Jose Mourinho, claim reports
David Luiz left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain this summer because of the breakdown in the relationship between himself and his manager, Jose Mourinho, according to El Confidencial.
Luiz, 27, suffered a miserable night on Tuesday when Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in the World Cup semi-final as the tournament hosts were left embarrassed in their own back yard.
The Brazilian defender left Chelsea prior to the World Cup starting, joining PSG for around £40 million, a staggering figure for a defender but even more so for Luiz, who is one of the more questionable defenders in Europe.
He had a torrid final season with Chelsea that did not look like it ever had legs following an early error against Cardiff City that saw the Blues trail at Stamford Bridge before turning the result around.
Apparently, in the Spanish reports, Luiz and Mourinho fell out and the Brazilian found it hard to work well at Chelsea, feeling that he needed to be ‘loved’ and happy to perform well.
By joining PSG, he joins up with his international central defensive partner, Thiago Silva, who he seems to enjoy playing with and could flourish with in France. However, it just never seemed likely to work once Mourinho had returned to Chelsea as the Brazilian knew early on that he and the Portuguese boss would not get on.
Luiz won 12/17 headed duels for Brazil at the World Cup.
