David Luiz reveals why he left Chelsea to join PSG
PSG defender David Luiz admitted that he refused to extend his contract with Chelsea so he could move to the French club.
Although Jose Mourinho claimed that losing Luiz would not affect the club, the Brazilian defender claimed that the Blues did offer him a contract extension.
Luiz made a record breaking £50m move to the Ligue 1 champions this summer – the highest transfer fee paid for a defender.
The £50m fee is also the 10th highest transfer fee paid for a player.
I made a choice: Luiz
The 27-year-old spoke about the transfer after a 1-1 draw against Monaco.
“I made my choice and I’m happy with my choice,” he said
“I’m happy to see my friends at Chelsea playing very well, and I’m happy to be here.
“They’ve been doing very well for many, many years. It’s important to finish well, not just the beginning.”
Happy with PSG’s contract: Luiz
About the opportunity to extend his contract with the London club, he said: “Chelsea offered me a new contract to stay but it was my choice to come here.
“I was happy with the plan PSG offered to me and I think it was exactly the right moment to move. I was so happy at Chelsea – I won two titles, I won another title for the FA Cup, so it was great for me.
“I’m a lucky guy. I was playing for a big club in Chelsea and now I’ve got another opportunity to play for a big club.”
