David Luiz under Barcelona radar again?
Brazilian defender David Luiz is in the fray of becoming the million-dollar baby for Barca if they get their hands on him. Following their crushing defeat to Bayern Munich, which saw them being ousted from the Champions league, they have begun to show interest in the former Benfica man.
Personally, David Luiz prefers London and is happy to extend his stay with Chelsea that saw him sign a new deal with them last summer till 2017. With the outstanding performances David gave for Chelsea, Barca have begun to show interest in the 25-year-old defender to strengthen their defensive options after a 7-0 defeat by Bayern Munich over two legs.
Excelling in the defensive midfield area for Chelsea of late, Luiz was involved in the 3-1 win over Basel FC, scoring a stunning goal from outside the box. However, Chelsea may demand up to £40m for David. The club’s board are prepared to fund a move for their long-term target Luiz this summer, with several players expected to leave the Nou Camp.
But with Chelsea’s administrative situation and their failure to challenge for the Barclay’s Premier League in David Luiz’s two-and-a-half year tenure in England, Barcelona look to get the services of the versatile Luiz, much to Chelsea chagrin.
