David Moyes admits he considered signing Daniele De Rossi

David Moyes has admitted that Manchester United did look into purchasing Daniele De Rossi in the summer, but stopped short of saying a bid was tabled for the Roma midfielder.

De Rossi had earlier this week made the claim that he would’ve ‘committed suicide’ had he missed out on Roma’s unbeaten start to the season and subsequent title challenge to be part of a United side that languish in seventh in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils suffered a number of setbacks in the summer transfer window as a number of targets rejected a move to a new look United side shorn of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Moyes has confirmed that De Rossi was one of the midfielders he set out to bring to Old Trafford.

He told reporters, “We certainly did think in the summer about bringing him here.

“I don’t think it went as far as a bid, because I think there was something to do with a deadline on his contract.

“But yes, he was a player we thought was a good player.”

Moyes also expects there to be little business done in January, despite reports linking him with a return bid for Leighton Baines, as well as moves for the likes of Ross Barkley and Koke of Atletico Madrid.

“I think most of the business will be towards the summertime, rather than January.

“We will keep looking and if the situation changes with one of our targets in January, then great.”
