Rumour: Dejan Lovren hands in transfer request at Southampton with Liverpool interested
Southampton defender Dejan Lovren has reportedly handed in a transfer request as interest from Liverpool builds up, according to the Daily Mail.
Lovren moved to the Saints in the summer and has excelled on the south coast under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino. Lovren, 24, has made 25 appearances for Southampton this season and grabbed the winning goal for the Saints at Anfield in September.
Lovren has been heavily linked with the Reds, however, Rodgers have been unable to lure the Croatian to Merseyside. Lovren signed for £8.5m from French side Lyon in June, but is reportedly interested in a move to Liverpool.
Liverpool signed Tiago Ilori, Mamadou Sakho, Aly Cissokho and Kolo Toure in the summer, but their defensive problems were a main problem for them last season. They leaked goals all season, however, fortunately for the Reds the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were making up for that by netting at the other end.
Lovren was Southamton’s main man this season at the back and the centre-back has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe. He is valued at £15 million and the defender wrote an email to executive director Les Reed and chairman Ralph Krueger on May 30 notify them that he wanted to leave.
