Diego Costa decides International future, "Cannot reveal choice now" he says
Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa has revealed that he has decided upon the country he wishes to pledge his allegiance to, but he can’t make his decision public as yet.
Born in Brazil, Costa received a Spanish passport last year and looked set to switch allegiance to the country in which he has played his club football for the last five years.
The Brazilian FA has tried to persuade Costa to change his mind and stick with the country of his birth, although national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has maintained that only he gets to choose the squad for each game.
Costa, however, has claimed that all issues have been resolved and a decision has been reached.
“The decision is already taken,” Costa said.
“I have spoken with those I needed to speak with. I do not have to speak [again] with [Spain coach Vicente] Del Bosque. Now we just have to wait. I cannot say publicly yet what I am going to do. I hope it is all resolved soon.”
There is no doubt why Brazil and Spain are at loggerheads with each other for this young player who has shown his brilliance every now and then. He scored twice in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 Champions League win over Austria Vienna despite not being 100% fit due to an ankle problem.
