Diego Maradona hits out at AFA; compares them to Pakistan officials

The Argentine Football Association has been slammed by legendary Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona, who has accused the officials of “understanding as much about football as Pakistan does.“

The 1986 World Cup winner with Argentina had coached his country for the World Cup which was held at South Africa in 2010, where Germany humiliated Argentina by handing them a 4-0 defeat in the Quarter’s.

The footballing great has not been able to transfer his immense success as a footballer to becoming a successful coach. Following the debacle in the World Cup, the 53-year-old was involved in a public fall-out with AFA president Julio Grondona and director of the national team Carlos Bilardo, after Maradona accused the duo for his sacking.

Maradona has not moved-on from the fall-out as he has hit out at the AFA, having compared his former employers to the Pakistan Football Federation, who are currently raked 158th in the World.

“The AFA has played dirty tricks on me. I should have also been the Argentina coach at the World Cup (at Brazil 2014). But the current leaders of the association understand as much about football as Pakistan does,” Maradona said.

“They don’t have a clue at all.

“To clarify: There are certainly many good things in Pakistan, but I have never seen them play a World Cup final.

“I say: The current association leaders in Argentina are the same as Pakistan.”

Argentina have been handed a rather easy group with the other teams being Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria and Iran in Group F. On June 15th, Argentina will start their World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
