Dortmund hopeful Goetze will make Wembley
BERLIN (AFP) –
Borussia Dortmund are hoping to have Germany midfielder Mario Goetze fit for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 25, even though he tore a hamstring in the semi-final against Real Madrid.
The 20-year-old limped out of Dortmund’s 2-0 defeat in Madrid on Tuesday after only 14 minutes having torn his left hamstring, but Dortmund doctor Markus Braun has said it is a “realistic goal” to have him fit for Wembley.
Goetze is definitely out of Saturday’s dress rehearsal for the Wembley final when second-placed Dortmund host Bayern in the Bundesliga at Borussia’s Signal Iduna Park with the Bavarians having won the German league title with a record six games to spare.
Goetze will join Bayern in July having last week announced he has actioned a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave for a reported 37 million euros.
While both sides are expected to rest players for Saturday’s showdown in Dortmund, Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes has admitted “there might be a bit of resentment from the Dortmund side” in the wake of the Goetze transfer.
