Draw against Manchester United - Fair result in a dull match

John Terry – The man on a mission

Last night was a quiet and if we are honest, a little boring affair.

It appeared that neither team was willing to go out and take the game by the scruff of the neck to fully pursue a win.

The game was scrappy and there were few chances.

A draw was a fair result, although, I feel it suits Chelsea more than Manchester United as Old Trafford is always a difficult place to go.

The draw will not have a long term impact on either side but David Moyes was denied a victory that would assert his role as the boss at Old Trafford.

The selection of Wayne Rooney was an interesting one and he was in good form for Manchester United getting a good reception from United fans and choruses of “we’ll see you next week” from the away fans.

Jose Mourinho Set Up

The starting line up surprised everyone and although we denied Manchester United the chance to play their natural game it also prevented us from establishing an attacking shape and finding any rhythm.

I am a fan of having a striker in the team and have never bought into the “false 9″ mentality of Spain and Barcelona, particularly when we proceeded to punt the ball forward aimlessly.

The continued absence of Lukaku is baffling but Torres did at least have a few sharp touches when he came on.

There was also no Juan Mata and it is concerning not to see one of our best players involved, hopefully this is due to match fitness rather than a regular tactical decision.

Man of the Match

With both sides lacking rhythm and giving the ball away at every opportunity there were few standout performances.

Chelsea were strong at the back with John Terry the standout performer with a typically strong performance leading a well coordinated and effective defence.

Therefore, for me he was our man of the match.

For the opposition, Wayne Rooney was probably their man of the match so we will see if he finally makes a decision about his future.
