Dudu Omagbemi back at Salgaocar FC

Dudu Omagbemi back in Goa!

Salgaocar FC have roped in Nigerian striker MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi for the remainder of the 2013/14 season. This shall be his second stint at the club following a short spell in 2002/03.

The 28-year old had five successful seasons in Goa with Sporting Clube de Goa where he finished as the top scorer on two occasions. He went on to join Poland’s Wisla Krakow before moving to Debreceni VSC in Hungary thereby making him the first player from the I-League to have played in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

He last played for Finnish club KuPS where his contract expired in November 2013. Dudu’s signature was keenly sought after by leading clubs in Israel, Turkey, Iran and Hungary but he chose to return to Salgaocar FC instead. “I am delighted to be back at Salgaocar FC. I look forward to giving my best, thereby helping the club achieve a respectable finish come the end of the season,” the player remarked. He will sport jersey No. 11.

“We have been on the lookout for a striker for a while now and we believe Dudu fits the bill given his past experience of having played in the I-League (old NFL) combined with his proven goal poaching ability,” commented coach Derrick Pereira.

With Dudu pairing upfront with Darryl Duffy, Salgaocar should find the back of the net with far greater frequency, thereby making them a real force to reckon with through the second phase of the I-League. Salgaocar resume their league engagements with a home game against Mohun Bagan AC scheduled to be played at the Tilak Maidan on Sunday, February 16.
