Rio de Janeiro, Oct 18 (IANS) Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has praised the Selecao's resurgence under new manager Dunga.

"Dunga's main task was to get confidence and respect back into Brazilian football," Xinhua quoted Parreira as saying during a book launch in Rio de Janeiro Friday.

"We need to show that we are still capable of playing good football. Life goes on and the team is now on the right track."

Parreira was part of Luiz Felipe Scolari's coaching staff that was sacked in July amid the fallout of Brazil's 1-7 World Cup semifinal defeat to Germany. Dunga has won each of his first four matches since taking charge of the Selecao for a second time, including victories against Colombia and Argentina, both ranked among FIFA's top five teams.

"Dunga is competent and he does something that I like," Parreira added.
