East Bengal keen to earn Semifinal place

The fate of Kolkata Football’s pride depends solely on East Bengal as the other three teams from Kolkata, heavyweights Mohun Bagan, Prayag United and Mohammedan Sporting, all got knocked out of the tournament. Three Goan clubs Dempo, Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers have already cemented their places in the semi finals. If East Bengal wins today, then they will play against Churchill Brothers in the semi final.

But the situation seems a bit complex in Group C as East Bengal and Sporting Club de Goa both are locked with 4 points. While East Bengal will face Kalighat Sporting at the same time Sporting Club de Goa will face ONGC in another encounter. But as far as the goal difference is concerned, Sporting is slightly better than the Kolkata giants. So, without any doubt, if both East Bengal and Sporting win today, then goal difference will play a vital role.

Though East Bengal has beaten Kalighat in the CFL Kolkata Premier League, coach Trevor James Morgan is not taking his opponents lightly. He said, “I respect each and every opponent…as well as Kalighat…Uga and Gurwinder had already got single yellow card…so we have to play carefully…”. But as the timing of the match between East Bengal and Kalighat has been changed from 7pm to 3pm, that’s why Morgan is quite angry over the Federation.
