Edinson Cavani: a wanted man

Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani is a name which has featured on the wishlist of many football managers. The striker from Uruguay is one of the biggest names in this year’s transfer market, with many big clubs making statements about their interest in him. The top four contenders remain Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Cavani doesn’t seem keen on going to Manchester City. Napoli have already made statements that City are not ready to pay the required transfer fee for Cavani, who is priced at €63m. City have not backed out of adding his name in their shopping list, but they have also approached other options such as Stevan Jovetic and Luis Suarez. Their interest seems to have only increased after the exit of Carlos Tevez to Juventus.

On the other hand, Chelsea seem to be comfortable paying €63m and have also proposed Fernando Torres in exchange along with a reasonable fee. The exchange offer seems more likely as Torres hasn’t been at his best with the Blues after his arrival from Liverpool, and would love to make a fresh start.

Real Madrid are looking by far the biggest contenders for Cavani as they have been giving out many positive statements about Cavani’s arrival. With the likely departure of Gonzalo Higuain, Madrid would want to have a quality striker in the team, especially with such a great midfield.

After Madrid come PSG who have got the funds and would love to have another quality striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to make their attack the best in Europe.

It is going to be interesting when this battle for Cavani finally ends. But one thing is for sure – whoever gets Cavani will be very pleased with themselves, because it would be no ordinary battle that they would have won.
