Edinson Cavani could miss Copa America quarter-final after father's arrest
Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani could miss his side’s quarter-final clash against Chile in the Copa America after his father was detained by the police, according to national team coach Oscar Tabarez. Luis Cavani, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he was driving his son’s truck, and got involved in an accident that killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist.
Tabarez has offered his full backing to Edinson Cavani but could not confirm Cavani’s involvement against hosts Chile. He said, ”We have spoken with him to give him all our support, but other very personal things can derive from that state he is in.”
"He is affected by it, as anyone in a similar situation would be. We'll let time pass so he can adapt to the situation.”
The PSG star, himself, hasn’t given any updates on his participation for the next match. The 28-year-old was scheduled to train normally with his team-mates on Tuesday and Tabarez believes his star player would recover from the entire episode.
“I am confident he will put the pieces in their place so he can focus on the game."
Uruguay finished third in Group B behind Argentina and Paraguay and are scheduled to face Group A toppers Chile in the Copa America quarter-finals.
