Carabao Cup 2017/18; Swansea City 0-2 Manchester United: Player Ratings
Manchester United were hosted by Swansea City in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup last night. Jesse Lingard scored both of Manchester United's goals as the EFL Cup holders advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition, beating their hosts 2-0.
The 24-year-old struck on either side of half-time as Jose Mourinho's men returned to winning ways, following Sunday's defeat by Huddersfield.
Here's how the players rated at the Liberty Stadium:
Swansea City
Kristoffer Nordfeldt - 6/10
Nordfeldt could do little with either United goal and did make a couple of decent stops. Swansea's problems were not related to their goalkeeper.
Angel Rangel - 5/10
Rangel played an excellent pass to Routledge in the first half, but that was his only meaningful contribution. He struggled to deal with Martial whenever the United man pulled out wide.
Mike van der Hoorn - 4/10
Van der Hoorn was sucked in by Rashford in the build-up to United's first goal, leaving him in no man's land. He was often left in poor positions after struggling to work out whether or not to follow the runs of Martial and Rashford.
Alfie Mawson - 6/10
Mawson was more solid than his centre-back partner, but he also proved unable to contain United's fluid front line. He did play some good passes out from the back, though.
Martin Olsson - 5/10
Olsson had performed well enough at left-back, but he was taken off before half-time after picking up a hamstring injury. He will be a big loss for Swansea, who do not have a natural alternative in his position.
Roque Mesa - 5/10
With United dominating possession, this was not the ideal game for deep-lying midfielder Mesa. The former Las Palmas man was unable to influence proceedings with his distribution.
Ki Sung-yeung - 7/10
Ki was probably Swansea's best player. The South Korean showed some excellent touches and always looked for a forward pass when possible.
Sam Clucas - 6/10
Clucas had a mixed evening, playing some good passes in midfield but struggling to create chances for his side. He occasionally got caught out of position in a defensive sense.
Wayne Routledge - 4/10
This was a disappointing night for Routledge, who failed to take advantage of a rare start. He was wasteful in possession and made some poor decisions.
Oliver McBurnie - 6/10
McBurnie worked hard at the top of the pitch and did manage to ask the United backline a few questions, but ultimately, he didn't have the right service to make an impression.
Andre Ayew - 6/10
Ayew was quiet for much of the night, partly because he was forced to spend a lot of time chasing back and defending. He did, however, produce a couple of quality moments on the ball.
Substitutes:
Kyle Naughton - 6/10
Naughton filled in at left-back after Olsson sustained an injury. He did a competent job but was unable to offer anything going forward.
Leroy Fer - 7/10
Fer was a lively presence during his time on the pitch, carrying the ball through midfielder and taking on United players. He was a positive influence off the bench.
Tammy Abraham - 7/10
Abraham tested Sergio Romero with an excellent shot and looked more likely to make something happen than McBurnie.
