England 1-1 Denmark: Three Lions Player Ratings in unconvincing draw | UEFA Euro 2024
England drew 1-1 against Denmark on Thursday, June 20 at the Frankfurt Arena in Euro 2024.
Kyle Walker's brilliance helped England get the lead through Harry Kane who slotted past Kasper Schmeichel in the 18th minute. But post the opener, Gareth Southgate's men looked lax and were too deep into their own half.
Denmark started capitalising on this defensive approach and grew into the game as they controlled proceedings. Morten Hjulmand equalised in stunning fashion, displaying grit and determination. England tried to get their feet back into the game but Kasper Hjumland's side didn't slip yet again.
England lacked the character to turn it around and failed to seal their qualification. They will now have to wait for their final group game with Slovenia to seal the deal.
On that note, let's take a look at the player ratings for England.
England Player Ratings
Jordan Pickford - 6/10
Pickford showed signs of nerves but couldn't be blamed for the goal Morten Hjulmand scored.
Kieran Trippier - 6/10
Trippier had a substandard performance, as he couldn't produce anything going forward. He was decent defensively but needs more output offensively, which was massively lacking.
Marc Guehi - 7.5/10
It was another impressive performance by Marc Guehi, as he looked quite composed and confident at the back. His ball distribution, positioning and timing were all well balanced.
Guehi won four duels, made three recoveries, cleared the ball thrice, won one tackle and made one block throughout the game. Overall, it was a brilliant showing from the 23-year-old.
John Stones - 6/10
It was an average performance from the Machester City defender, as his lack of playing time for the club showed. Stones looked clueless with the ball on mny occasions. He did his part well defensively, but more is expected of a player who has played as a midfielder too in Pep Guardiola's set-up.
Kyle Walker - 7/10
Walker did what he does best, scare the opposition with his fiery pace. He did just that, he as he capitalised on his pace to set up Kane's opener, breezing past Rasmus Kristensen.
Declan Rice - 5.5/10
Rice couldn't play the orchestrator's role for England. He had to put a shift, as he covered a lot of ground when his side were out of possession but couldn't set the tempo.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 5.5/10
Alexander-Arnold is definitely not ticking in midfield. The Liverpool defender looked uncomfortable and with such little contribution or hold-up, he shouldn't be put in that place.
Phil Foden - 7.5/10
Foden looked like the only England player up front who could make something happen for his lacklustre side.
He completed four dribbles, won six duels, took four shots out of which one hit the woodwork, made three recoveries and won one tackle. He will hope for more support up front.
Jude Bellingham - 6/10
Performances like these count as a no show for players of Bellingham's stature. He was seen urging his teammates to do better post their game against Serbia but was unable to replicate his previous game's display.
Bukayo Saka - 7/10
Saka looked like the one who wanted to make something happen. He was excited to have the ball at his feet and wanted to produce an output everytime in possession.
He eased much more in the second half but was taken off in the 70th minute, which was a little puzzling, as he was one of the better players on the pitch.
Saka won five duels, made two recoveries, cleared the ball four times, made one interception and created two chances throughout his stay on the pitch.
Harry Kane - 6/10
Harry Kane scored the only goal for his side but was at fault for Denmark's equaliser. Apart from the goal, he looked sluggish and was taken off in the 70th minute.
Ratings of England substitutes
Conor Gallagher - 7/10
Post Gallagher's introduction, Foden and Saka looked more at ease, and their fluidity increased.
Eberechi Eze - 5/10
Much like his counterparts, he hardly had any influence on the game.
Jarrod Bowen - 5/10
He didn'thave much impact on the game.
Ollie Watkins - 6/10
He was at the end of a brilliant ball by Bellingham but couldn't tuck it in from a tight angle.
