England face off with the Netherlands in the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2024 this Wednesday. The match will take place in Dortmund's famous Westfalenstadion.
England got to the semi-finals in dramatic fashion, winning a tense penalty shoot-out against Switzerland after their quarter-final ended 1-1 following extra time.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, also had to fight hard to make it this far. They came from behind to edge out Turkey 2-1, scoring their two goals in the space of six second-half minutes.
Both of these sides will be desperate to make it to Sunday's final in Berlin. So who will come out on top?

- England have a long and varied history against the Netherlands. These sides have faced off on 24 occasions, with England winning six, the Netherlands winning seven, and nine games ending in draws.
- The last time England and Netherlands faced off in a competitive game was in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals in 2019. That match saw England take a first-half lead, only to fall 3-1 after extra time following errors from John Stones and Ross Barkley.
- England's most famous match with the Netherlands at the European Championship came back in the group stage in the 1996 edition. Terry Venables' Three Lions dismantled a strong Dutch side 4-1 in front of a packed Wembley crowd.
- Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo is currently tied with three other players on three goals in the race for the tournament's Golden Boot. Given that those other three players have now been eliminated, a goal here would likely cement Gakpo as the winner of the award.
- England's penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland was only their third in the two major international tournaments (World Cup and European Championship). The Netherlands, however, have an even worse record - winning just two of their eight shoot-outs in major tournaments.

Like most of the knockout games at Euro 2024, this one is difficult to predict.
England have still not shown their best form and looked leggy against Switzerland for lengthy periods. However, their individual quality, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka is still phenomenal. What's more, Gareth Southgate's side know how to navigate major tournaments - this will be their third semi-final in their last four tournament appearances.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, have shone at instances during Euro 2024 despite being without two of their most talented midfielders before the tournament. In Cody Gakpo, they have the most in-form goalscorer, and also boast a tough defense.
With that said, Austria breached that defense with worrying ease in their group game against Ronald Koeman's men, and that's something Southgate's Three Lions will hope to repeat on Wednesday.
We expect another tight match, but we think England's experience at this level should pull them through.
