Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle - Player Ratings
Rafa Benitez's men put up some battle in the beginning as the hosts found it difficult to break down the visitors. The Magpies were defending well but it was none other than Mohamed Salah who gave his side the lead. The Egyptian had already seen one of his shots blocked before he scored the opening goal of the evening a couple of minutes before half-time.
Sadio Mane doubled the lead just 10 minutes into the second half as Klopp's men comfortably beat Newcastle to move up to the second spot on the league table.
Here are the player ratings from the game.
Newcastle
Martin Dubravka - 6/10
The Slovakian should have done better regarding Salah's goal.
Florian Lejeune - 6.5/10
The Frenchman had a decent game. He made key blocks and also cleared a couple of balls.
Jamaal Lascelles - 7/10
Lascelles was probably Newcastle's best player at the back of the line. He was the heart of the defence.
Paul Dummett - 7/10
The full-back had a nice game at Anfield. He made some key interceptions to stop Salah.
DeAndre Yedlin - 6/10
He tried to make an impact while going forward but really failed to do so. Defensively speaking, he was okay.
Christian Atsu - 6/10
Not the best game for the former Chelsea player. Apart from a few touches now and then, he failed to make an impact in the game.
Kenedy - 6/10
On loan from Chelsea, Kenedy spent most of his time defending in the match. He needs to step up his game in the future.
Mohamed Diamé - 6/10
He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet but he did bring a physical presence in the midfield.
Mikel Merino - 5/10
He looked lost for the most part of the game as he saw the match pass by him in the midfield.
Dwight Gayle - 6/10
Gayle was left isolated for most of the evening. Looked like a mere spectator before being subbed off.
Jacob Murphy - 5/10
It was not the best night for Murphy. He looked nervous and couldn't get on the ball.
Substitutes
Joselu - 5/10
Coming on for Gayle in the 66th minute, Joselu couldn't offer what the manager would have expected him from.
Isaac Hayden - 5/10
Coming on in the 73rd minute, Hayden was sent to shore things up but he didn't really impact proceedings.
Ayoze Perez - N/A
He came on for the final six minutes and didn't have much time to make an impact on the game.
