Liverpool have found a supporter in Robert Lewandowski in their bid to challenge for the Premier League this season. The Reds are fourth on the table with 16 points, just two points behind table toppers, Manchester City. Lewandowski found his stride under the German and has always maintained that Klopp played a huge role in his career. This season will see Lewandowski's two former managers, Klopp and Guardiola go head to head in the Premier League as he also reflected on both the team's chances of lifting the trophy come May with Liverpool having an upper hand because of no midweek duties as it will give the players more time recovering after playing in a high-intensity way.
The Polish striker was quoted by the Mirror as saying, "Under Klopp I think Liverpool will be fighting for the title this season. Pep and Manchester City will not make it easy for anybody to win the title, but Liverpool have a real chance. Without European football it can really help them with being fresh for games and with injuries and, even though Klopp is always smiling, he is ruthless enough to take advantage of that."
Similarities between Dortmund and Liverpool
Lewandowski also revealed that he has watched a few of Liverpool's games and he sees a lot of similarities between Klopp's Dortmund team and his current one and added, "I have watched some Liverpool games since the arrival of Klopp, and you can see that the players are enjoying playing for him. As a player you know that he totally has your back, he is like a father figure and, because you have that trust in him as a player, it makes you totally open to his methods and his ideas which, in the long term, you always see are for the benefit of your game and for the team. "
Klopp completes one year with Liverpool on 8 October and the German will be quite pleased with how the team has responded to his methods with Liverpool enjoying one of their best starts to a Premier League season. The Reds have also scored the most number of goals in England since Klopp took over.
After the international break, Liverpool host bitter rivals Manchester United, and a win for Klopp, coupled with a few results going Liverpool’s way, could see the Reds on top of the Premier League.
