EPL 2016-17: Memphis Depay responds to rumours linking him with Everton

The 22-year-old has so far had a torrid season under Jose Mourinho

Dutch international footballer and Manchester United star, Memphis Depay’s odds of joining Everton FC are increasing day by day and the 22-year-old finally responded to the ongoing rumours.

The Dutchman joined Manchester United last summer from Netherlands club, PSV Eindhoven on a four-year contract after having a spectacular season with the club, scoring 28 goals for them in 2014/15 season.

There was plenty of speculation in the media after Everton football club’s apparent interest in the Manchester United player came out. Even Depay doesn’t seem to be quite sure about his career at Old Trafford and this is what he had to say when asked about a possible move to the Merseyside club.

“I do not know, we’ll have to see. I focus on United; I do my very best to be able to get minutes.”

The 22-year old’s unclear response could be a sign of him thinking about the opportunity and regular playing time he will get in the Premier League. The Dutchman who is on international duty with Netherlands scored two goals for his country helping them win 3-1 against Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifying game which was held on Sunday. Depay scored a free header and a late free-kick to seal the game.

“I’m going back to United with a good feeling because I have got minutes here and we won. That is the most important thing.”

Even the manager of Everton football club, Ronald Koeman has expressed interest in acquiring the talented young winger last week. Koeman who is of the same nationality as Memphis Depay believes that “he is an interesting player”.

Speaking in an interview with Fox Sports Dutch program Koeman stated,  "I would like to have him. I think he is an interesting player. He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games."

The 22-year-old has so far had a torrid season under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United playing just over 20 minutes of Premier League football. Some rumors suggest that Depay’s underwhelming training performances are part of a reason behind Mourinho not playing the youngster.

Depay has so far made four appearances in the Premier League this season with nothing to show for. Although his club career might be on the downfall, Memphis seems to be determined to get back to his old form after his impressive performance for the Netherlands football team.
