EPL 2016-17: Sir Alex Ferguson says Jurgen Klopp has brought belief back to Liverpool
Liverpool have had a dream start to the new campaign under Jurgen Klopp as the Reds sit joint top on top of the Premier League table, equal on points with Manchester City and Arsenal. The Reds also reached the last eight of the EFL Cup this week after beating Spurs in the fourth round. Jurgen Klopp and his hardworking men have found an admirer in Manchester United's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the Scot praised the German's impact on the Merseyside club.
Ferguson spoke about Klopp's arrival changing the mentality around the club and also said that Liverpool are one of the title contenders this campaign alongside Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
During his long career with the Red Devils, Ferguson had famously said to 'knock Liverpool off their perch' as he won the league 13 times with United which helped them to overtake Liverpool's tally of 18 league honors.

Ferguson, in praise of the Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, said, "It can happen that big clubs lose it. For two decades, Liverpool changed managers without building their own identity. You can now well and truly sense that you have to count them in this year. You can see Klopp's dedication on the sideline as I'm convinced his work in training is similar. He's a strong personality. That's absolutely vital at a big club."
Ferguson also said that the German has revived enthusiasm among the Liverpool supporters as after coming in last October, Klopp has made Liverpool into a difficult side to face. The Reds are unbeaten at home since January and are also unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions since the 2-0 loss to Burnley in August. The Reds have also scored the most number of goals in this calendar year along with accumulating the most number of points in 2016.
After Klopp's appointment at Liverpool last October, Ferguson had admitted last year, "I'm worried about him because the one thing United don't want is Liverpool to get above us."
The Scotsman retired in 2013 leaving United as their most successful manager in their illustrious history. His successors David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal have already been sacked and present boss, Jose Mourinho is under immense pressure to be a success.
