EPL 2016/17: Jamie Carragher thinks Manchester United cannot win Premier League title
Former Liverpool and England international Jamie Carragher has admitted he believes Manchester United are not robust enough to compete and win the Premier League title this season. With heavy criticism raining down on Mourinho and co, MNF host and analyst, Carragher ruled out United’s title chances, though he reckons they are in a fight to finish in the top four.
The recent run of results for United compounded to their worst ever start to a Premier League season, as they have picked up 20 points from 13 matches and sit currently in sixth place, eight points off the Gunners in fourth.
“I don’t think it’s a possibility they can win the title. There are too many teams ahead of them, and I don't think they're actually good enough. I don't think they've had the toughest of starts. The four games at home they drew didn't have too many big names in there,” Carragher said.
Although the ex-Liverpool player, who himself has never won the Premier League, believes United won’t lift the PL trophy at the end of the season. He also reckons a tough fight for a top four finish. United in sixth are eight points off fourth and eleven off the leaders Chelsea, with the Carragher claiming the Europa League might be affecting their league form.
“Jose Mourinho still has to talk about winning the title because that’s what he said at the start of the season. I think if you offered Jose Mourinho top four now he’d bite your hand off. He doesn’t want Thursday night football again. He’s going strong in the Europa League because he realises that’s an avenue to the Champions League. They’ve got a big fight on their hands for top four," Carragher added.

Mourinho has had a worse start to his managerial career at Old Trafford when compared to both his predecessors, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. However, as stated in his pre-season goals and vision during his reign at the club, Mourinho urged and promised fans ‘a never say die’ attitude from the squad.
Another concern for United has been their form in front of goal, as they have not taken their opportunities in the final third after some neat intricate build-up play to create the chances. As the club prepare to take on West Ham for the second time in a week at Old Trafford, this time in the EFL Cup, the United faithful will be hoping for a positive result.
